Aluminum hydroxide is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula Al(OH)3, which is a hydroxide of aluminum. Aluminum hydroxide can react with acid to form salt and water as well as with strong bases to form salt and water, so it is an amphoteric hydroxide. It is also called aluminum acid (H3AlO3) because of its acidity. However, it actually reacts with alkali to form tetrahydroxy aluminate ([Al(OH)4]-). Therefore, it is usually regarded as monohydrated meta-alumino acid (HAlO2-H2O), which is divided into two kinds according to its use: industrial grade and pharmaceutical grade.
