Alumina is an excellent raw material for electronic ceramic substrate because of its insulation, high temperature resistance, high thermal conductivity, good stability and high cost performance. With the rapid development of the electronic industry, the demand for alumina ceramic substrate increases year by year, and it has been widely used in consumer electronics, automotive electronics, LED lighting and other industries.

Electronic ceramic substrate used in integrated circuits, generally requires high density products, small size tolerance, high surface flatness, excellent electrical performance, good thermal performance, etc., for the production of ceramic substrate alumina needs to be calcined at high temperature above 1400ºC, after sodium, and fully grinding as raw materials for ceramic substrate. The purity, α phase content, crystal morphology and particle size distribution of alumina have great influence on the casting process and substrate quality.
For ceramic substrate, the shrinkage rate of powder is a strict requirement of the index, which directly affects the size of the deformation of sintered substrate, and this is related to the α phase conversion of calcined α -al2o3. The higher the α phase conversion, the more complete the crystallization, the higher the true density, the lower the sintering activity. On the contrary, the higher the sintering activity, the greater the shrinkage rate, too much shrinkage will cause the substrate deformation, warpage. However, when the α phase conversion rate is too high, the sintering activity is low. Although the shrinkage rate is small, the density is relatively low, which requires a higher sintering temperature, which is not conducive to the control of production cost. Therefore, the α -al2o3 used for the preparation of ceramic substrate should not only control the appropriate α phase conversion, but also ensure its stable conversion, which is conducive to the production of high-quality ceramic substrate.
