Calcium fluoride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CaF2. It is a colorless crystal or white powder. It is hardly soluble in water and slightly soluble in inorganic acids. It reacts with hot concentrated sulfuric acid to form hydrofluoric acid. Experiments generally use calcium carbonate and hydrofluoric acid to react or repeatedly treat fluorite powder with concentrated hydrochloric acid or hydrofluoric acid to prepare calcium fluoride. Calcium fluoride minerals in nature are fluorite or fluorite, often in gray, yellow, green, purple and other colors. Sometimes they are colorless, transparent, glassy, brittle, and have significant fluorescence. Very pure fluorspar is used to make specialty lenses. Fluorite is mainly used as a flux for smelting metals; when drinking water contains 1-1.5ppm calcium fluoride, it can prevent and treat dental diseases.
